This is a great opportunity to come out and taste some truly wonderful and affordable great wines from a local winery here in the east bay! The current winemaker for Tamayo is Jon Engelskirger. Jon honed his craft while associate winemaker at Silverado Vineyards, and as winemaker at Robert Pepi Winery and Hanna Winery. Most recently, Jon was for nine years the winemaker at Turnbull Wine Cellars in the Napa Valley, where he had the good fortune to test his skills while working with some of California's finest vineyards. Their 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon is 89% Cabernet from Spring Mountain and 11% Cab Franc from St Helena and is absolutely fabulous second day. But what I like even more about this great wine is the price point! At Bella Vino, we retail it for $26.99. Yes, NO JOKE, this is correct 05 Spring Mountain Fruit for under $30/Bottle. Their 06 Santa Lucia Pinot Noir just received 90 Points from Wine Enthusiast! This wine is a great representation of the appellation and again, another killer price point! So, I’ve already hinted at some of my favorites, so lets get back to the tasting menu! Sauvignon Blanc 2006 Napa Valley – Bronze 08 San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition, Silver ’07 North of the Gate Wine Competition and another Silver ’07 Orange County Fair Wine Competition Chardonnay 2006 Sonoma County – This wine recently received 2 Silver Medals at the ’08 San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition and the ’08 World Wine Competition Tamayo Red 2006 (I brought this wine into the store earlier this month. It was one of our featured Thanksgiving Wine Picks) Pinot Noir 2006 Santa Lucia Highlands – 90 Points Wine Enthusiast, Silver (Best of Appellation) – Appellation America, 92 – Gold 2008 World Wine Championships, 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley – Silver Medal 2008 San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition J. Jaden 2003 Red Dessert Wine (Hmmmm, how do I say this. This Port Style Wine ROCKS!! I brought in 6 bottles and was sold out before the invoice ever came in. Needless to say, I brought in another case)! This wine will make an excellent gift for the holidays as it is local Contra Costa fruit and is truly a wonderful wine)! Plus, I hear that they will be bringing their very exclusive, limited production Sleepy Hollow Pinot Noir too!
