Chappellet Winery @ Bella VinoMeet Chris Blanchard Certified Master Sommelier & Director of Wine Education6:30pm to 8:30pmTasting Fee $20.00/$15.00 Wine Club MembersFee Applied per Bottle Purchase of Featured Wine Ironically, I just met Chris at Wine Judging Competition in Santa Rosa, although sad to say, he was not in my judging panel. So, I’ll try not to hog him when he is here. After all, there are only 159 Master Sommelier’s in this world, let alone even fewer that are on prestigious winery teams in the Napa Valley and Napa Valley restaurants.
Chappellet Winery hit another gold mind last year (one of MANY) when their 04 Signature Napa Valley hit Wine Spectators Top 100 list for 2007. I think it was number 27. This year, the trend in their Cabernet making follows with an enormous 96 Pointer from Wine Spectator this year with their 2005 Pritchard Hill Cabernet (which, we will be tasting this evening too)!
In addition to great cabernet making, their 2006 Chardonnay got a great score from Wine Spectator with 92 points too. This Chardonnay is also one of my personal recommendations in the store.
Check out below to see what is on the tasting menu:
2006 Chardonnay, Napa Valley - 92 Points - Wine Spectator - A rich, creamy yet elegant wine, with a seamless mix of ripe pear, apple and creamy-toasty oak flavors that give it a nice balance between fruit and oak. Long and persistent finish. Drink now through 2012 Woo Hoo..looking for a nice wine for Thanksgiving? This wine has a beautiful creamy nose with a nicely balanced palate too. This wine will stand up well to the all of those incredibly fattening side dishe, in addition doing beautifully on its own!
2006 Mountain Cuvee, Napa Valley – Crafted around a core of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, the 2006 Mountain Cuvee begins with sweet and vibrant red cherry aromas, alongside notes of rhubarb, lavender, earth and spice. Rich,mouth-filling and backed by well-balanced tannins, it offers a pleasing array of ripe red and black fruit flavors highlighting cherry and plum layers. The 2005 Mountain Cuvee was so yummy, it landed a placement in the October Wine Club placement!
2006 Signature Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa Valley - From its cocoa and coffee layers to its fresh herb notes and voluptuous fruit flavors, this wine displays a balanced and graceful expression of mountain grown Cabernet Sauvignon. The wine’s dark plum and sweet fruit core is supported by vibrant, bright cherry aromatics, well structured tannins, spicy oak and an earthy minerality. 2005 Pritchard Hill Estate Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa Valley - 96 Points Wine Spectator - Big, ripe and complex, but light on its feet. An elegant, spicy mix of rich currant, anise, toasty oak, espresso bean and subtle herbal scents, all of which fold together nicely, ending with a long, persistent finish. Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot and Malbec. Best from 2010 through 2016.
